Southwest Whip Club is a Non-Profit organization that’s purpose is to educate people on and encourage people in, West Coast Swing Dancing.  The Southwest Whip Club (SWWC) has been a huge influence in the dance community ever since 1983.  The Southwest Whip Club has educated the public on how to dance West Coast Swing (with a variant called “Whip”), sponsored state and regional dance competitions and even owns and runs a very successful dance competition (Novice Invitational) that pulls competitors and attendees from surrounding states.

People sometimes ask how we got the name, Southwest “Whip” Club.  Well, for those of you that are new to the area or new to West Coast Swing, let me fill you in.  Whip is a style of West Coast Swing that in past years was the dominant form of the dance, here in Texas.  A great definition can be found here.  Since our roots are in the “Whip” variation of the dance, we’ve held onto the name, although most of the dancing done in recent years has been the basic form of WCS.

Currently, SWWC will be contributing to the dance community by holding periodic workshops and dance parties.  In addition to that, Novice Invitational Dance Competition will continue to be a successful, annual, dance competition that is held in the Greater Houston Area.
